Her damp eyes can
barely focus as she gazes into his deep-blue ones. She can’t help the barrage
that flows. She’s tried so hard not to show weakness; his soft words have been
her undoing. The salty rivulets flood downward, dripping off her chin.
“I’m sorry,” she
sniffs. “It’s my fault he’s gone.” Her tears flow as her shoulders shake. “I’m
okay. I’ll be okay,” she swallows, ashamed at having broken down in front of
her companion, all sorts of stupid thoughts dancing in her mind.
